Return to Safety

A simple place to begin when life feels like too much

Breathe  ~  Be  Here.  ~  Remember

When life feels overwhelming...

Our instinct is often to try to think our way out of it - to solve the problem, make a decision, work harder or understand why.

But when we don't feel safe, more thinking isn't what we need.

Until we feel safe, we misperceive reality.

So before we try to change anything, there is somewhere much simpler to begin.

Come back to breath. Come back to the body. Come back to the Present Moment.

You are safe here.

Breathe in through your nose, down into your low belly.

Rest your tongue gently on the roof of your mouth as you inhale.

Exhale through your mouth - as though gently fogging a mirror.

Allow the inhale and exhale to be smooth, fluid and approximately equal, without holding between them.

Add a soft smile.

A Simple 5- Minute Return to Presence

You don't need a lot of time. Just a  willingness to pause.

1

NOTICE

What am I experiencing right now? Where do I feel it in my body?

2

BREATHE

Use the 5-Layer Breath to come into the Present Moment.

3

SOFTEN

Let your body release some of the tension it's holding.

4

REMEMBER

You are more than the thoughts, feelings and sensations you're experiencing.

5

BE HERE

Stay for a few breaths and feel the difference.

"A calmer nervous system
creates a more spacious mind,
and from that space, new possibilities emerge."
Remember...
You don't need to fix everything today.
You don't need to have all the answers.
You simply get to be here- and that is enough.

When you're ready to understand what's beneath the overwhelm

Sometimes returning to safety is enough to change how we experience the moment. And sometimes the same fears, reactions or patterns keep showing up.
When you're ready, the next step is to explore what's keeping you stuck.
